The book of Romans is a letter Paul wrote to the Christians in Rome before he was able to meet them in person. This letter is believed to have been written near the end of his third missionary journey. It teaches the basics of Christianity, that all sin and need the forgiveness of our Savior Jesus Christ, who accepts all who come to him in faith. Paul also addressed the special relationship that God has with the nation of Israel, and that he would restore them at a future time. Paul said Christians are members of God’s family and they need to please God because they love him.

Ruth

Ruth is a story about love. First is the love Naomi shows to her daughters-in-law, then Ruth’s devotion to Naomi as she leaves her native land of Moab to go with her aged mother-in-law back to her home in Bethlehem, and diligently begins gleaning in the fields. As it turns out, the fields belong to Boaz, who is in the position to become her Kinsman Redeemer. You will thoroughly enjoy reading the love story that follows, and eventually places Ruth in the genealogy of Jesus.

Judges

Judges records the history of the Israelites after the death of Joshua. It includes a period of over 325 years as the Israelites experience one series of ups and downs after another. When the Israelites keep God’s commands, they receive His blessings and protection, but when they fall away they are subdued by other nations. God sends Judges to bring the Israelites to repentance, and into God’s good graces with new victories over their enemies. But the cycle continues. Continue reading →

Acts of the Disciples

Those following the two-year Bible reading plan with me will begin reading the Acts of the Apostles tomorrow, July 14. (Link to the Two-Year Bible Reading Plan)

We completed the fourth Gospel three and a half months ago. We read about Jesus life on earth as he ministered to the disciples and the people. We also read about his death, and resurrection. The disciples were left in confusion and amazement.

Acts teaches us what happened with the disciples when the Holy Spirit came and gave them new courage. Continue reading →

Joshua

The book of Joshua shares the history of the Israelites beginning with Joshua leading them across the Jordan River on dry ground – a repeat of the Red Sea crossing 40 years earlier. Joshua and Caleb were the only ones to cross both rivers on dry land.
