The book of John written by the Apostle John, was the last of the Gospels to be written. John wrote to encourage new Christians and those curious about the Christian faith. We meet Moses as an infant in the first chapter of Exodus and learn how he, with God’s help, led the Israelites out of Egypt.
Most of the book of Exodus takes place at Mount Sinai where God gave the Israelites the Ten Commandments. This is where God gave Moses the specific design for the Tabernacle, altars, and many items of worship and the garments for the priests. We will also read about the rebellion of the Israelites. The book of Exodus concludes when God’s glory fills the Tabernacle. Continue reading →

Luke, a doctor, is believed to be the only Gentile who wrote books of the Bible. Luke’s stated purpose in writing was to compile a thorough and accurate summary of the life of Christ and his interactions with the disciples and the events surrounding them. Continue reading →
Those following the two-year Bible reading plan with me will begin reading Mark tomorrow, January 29. (Link to the Two-Year Bible Reading Plan)
The author of Mark is traditionally believed to be John Mark who is frequently mentioned in Acts, though this can’t be conclusively verified. The book is shorter than the other Gospels and is fast-moving as it follows Christ’s interactions with the Disciples and the Scribes and Pharisees. It includes many miracles, teachings, parables, and the story of Christ’s last week before his crucifixion and death. The tomb is then found to be empty and the women told that Christ had risen from the dead. The final verses, Mark 16:9-19, may have been added later giving an account of Christ’s appearance to the Eleven Disciples.

Skeptics may never accept that the first people lived several hundred years. They have created non-provable theories about why we shouldn’t believe people really lived that long.
But if we take God’s Word to mean what it says, we know that God created man to live eternally. Because of man’s sin, death entered the human race and life spans were limited.
Keeping that in mind, we should expect the first people to have superior genes that would let them live much longer lives than we do today. There were several instances in the biblical narrative that God chose to shorten the life span of mankind. Continue reading →
