Joshua
Those following the two-year Bible reading plan with me will begin reading Joshua tomorrow, June 29. (Link to the Two-Year Bible Reading Plan)
The book of Joshua shares the history of the Israelites beginning with Joshua leading them across the Jordan River on dry ground – a repeat of the Red Sea crossing 40 years earlier. Joshua and Caleb were the only ones to cross both rivers on dry land.
The narrative continues with the miraculous conquest of Jericho and the following defeat at Ai because of a specific sin against God by one of the Israeli soldiers. Once that was rectified more victories followed as the Israelites conquered most of the land. The land was then divided up between the twelve tribes. The final two chapters are about Joshua’s death.
