Nahum prophesied against Nineveh. Unlike when Jonah warned Nineveh, they did not repent as a result of Nahum’s prophecy. Judah, however, was comforted by Naham’s prophecy as the people of Nineveh had been so wicked. Naham prophesied that Nineveh would be destroyed by a great flood.

This prophecy came true when the Tigris River flooded and destroyed the entire city of Nineveh.

The prophet Micah spoke to the people of Judah during the reigns of Kings Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah. He prophesied against both Israel and Judah because of their sin and rebellion against God telling them that they would be captured and sent into exile. Continue reading →

Jonah

God told Jonah to go to Nineveh to warn the people that he was going to destroy their city, but Jonah didn’t want to go. He hated the people of Nineveh so he boarded a ship intending to go as far as he could in the opposite direction. The book of Jonah is very different from the other prophets in that it is almost entirely a narrative of the results of Jonah’s response to God’s command. The actual message to the Ninevites was very brief: God is going to destroy this city in forty days. Continue reading →

Obadiah

Obadiah prophesied against the nation Edom, descendants of Jacob’s brother Esau. God told Obadiah that he would destroy Edom because they were gleeful when the Babylonians drove the Israelites from their land. Edom helped Babylon capture the Israelites who had escaped. Obadiah prophesied to Edom that there would be no survivors in the house of Esau.

Review of NIV Radiant Virtues Bible

494 (300)I received a copy of the NIV Radiant Virtues Bible in the mail. It is perfect timing for my next read through the Bible in 2022 as it gives me a fresh start on clean unmarked pages. The amazing features of this journaling Bible focus on the Scripture passages themselves with colorful images of special verses, many verse pictures to color myself, and 52 special devotions which also focus on understanding and applying the Scriptures to my daily life. I colored in one of the Scripture verses and gained a greater appreciation for the process as the time spent coloring it also kept me focused on each word of the verse. Continue reading →
