Let me attempt to address some issues people wrestle with as they read Genesis 1, 2, and 3:
In the English language, the word day means 24 hours – always. But the Old Testament wasn’t written in English. Genesis was written in Hebrew, and the Hebrew word “yôm” can have several meanings. The word “yôm” has to be defined by the context in which it appears. Continue reading →
The first chapter of the first book of the Bible has become a stumbling block of one kind or another for so many people. Strong Christians with deep faith find themselves on opposite sides of the fence when it comes to Genesis 1&2. Are the days of creation literal days, or are they longer periods of time? What about the theory of evolution? Did all of life evolve like most universities like to insist? I have strong feelings about what I believe about all of this, but I still have a few questions I wonder about.
What bothers me the most on this issue is when people take an iron-clad stance on either side of this issue and insist there are no unanswered questions, that they have it all figured out. This happens on both sides of the debate. Continue reading →
Our two-year Bible reading plan begins on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 with the first chapters of Genesis and Matthew. Here are the reading schedules and a few highlights for these two books.

Genesis is a book about the beginnings – the creation of the universe from nothing, the beginning of the human race, the fall of man; the continued fall into corruption leading to the flood and Noah’s ark; the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the beginnings of the Israelite nation, Joseph, and the Israelites in Egypt. Included in Genesis are the covenants God made with Noah and the animals, and with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Matthew is the first of the Gospels in the New Testament, written by Matthew, the Jewish tax collector who became one of the Twelve Disciples. Matthew’s target audience was the Jews, as he wrote to convince them that Jesus was the Messiah, the eternal King of the Jews. Matthew focuses on how Jesus’ coming fulfilled the many prophecies found in the Old Testament. Continue reading →
I invite you to join me on a two-year Bible reading plan. This Bible reading plan was originated by Robert Murry M’Cheyne. There are four reading tracks in the original plan, and it was intended to be completed in one year. I am adapting his plan by following only two tracks and saving the other two for the following year. This makes it possible to read at a more relaxed pace and spend more time reflecting on the readings and perhaps digging deeper into supplemental texts.

I find it hard to believe that I haven’t posted on this blog in over three years. I have been blogging, however. I once thought a blog had to have a tight theme, so I created different blog sites for all the different things I wanted to write about. What a disaster! Gradually I’ve deleted many of those blogs, and I plan to delete a few more.
I started three Bible-oriented blogs: “Bible Bites 4 Teens,” “Bible Bites 4 Kids,” and “Bible Bites 4 You.” I closed out the one for Kids some time ago importing the posts into my publishing blog, www.honeycombadventures.com. I plan to close out the other two Bible Bites blogs soon and import those posts into this blog.
Throughout 2019 I posted on Bible Bites 4 You to encourage my readers on that blog and in a Facebook group as we read through the Bible in chronological order in a year.
In 2020 and 2021 I plan to follow a different Bible reading plan and post about it here on the “His Whisperings” blog. This Bible reading plan was created by Robert Murry M’Cheyne, and it was originally designed to read through the Bible on four reading tracks in a year, I am spreading it out over two years so I can focus more deeply on the passages rather than rushing to keep up with the schedule.
