Nehemiah is a continuation of the book of Ezra. There were Jews living in and around Jerusalem after they returned from exile. They reported to Nehemiah, one of King Artaxerxes of Persia’s officials who was also Jewish, telling him about how run-down Jerusalem had become. Christy Jordan is launching the read through the Bible plan on Facebook again this year. I only recently learned about it and am planning to follow it in 2021. Here is the link to Christy Jordan’s Front Porch Fellowship. It is on FB. She also has a web page that gives the schedule.

For those who wish to continue with the two-year plan from last year, I will continue to post the Old Testament previews for the two-year plan through 2021. Since the NT previews were all posted last year, I see no need to repeat them. Keep up with your Two-Year Bible Reading Plan bookmarks and you will do fine. You can easily search for the NT previews on this blog by the names of the books if you want them.

Ezra

Ezra was a Jewish priest and scribe and is generally credited with writing the book of Ezra. The Jews had been exiled into Babylon for 70 years when God prompted Cyrus, king of Persia to allow them to return to Jerusalem under Ezra’s leadership to rebuild the temple. The book of Ezra picks up the narrative at this point and relates the process of building the temple and re-establishing the sacrifices and Jewish festivals.  Continue reading →

Revelation

Rev 25,6-8Those following the two-year Bible reading plan with me will begin reading the book of Revelation tomorrow, December 10. (Link to the Two-Year Bible Reading Plan)

The book of Revelation was written by the apostle John when he was exiled to the island of Patmos for continuing to proclaim the Gospel message after the Roman Emperor Caesar demanded his subjects to worship himself and not Christ.

I acknowledge that I could not summarize this challenging book without plagiarizing myself, so I will not attempt it. Chuck Swindoll, whom I trust and admire, has written this overview of Revelation, so I encourage you to click on the link to his website and read more there.

Jude

Jude 1,20-21Those following the two-year Bible reading plan with me will begin reading the book of Jude tomorrow, December 9. (Link to the Two-Year Bible Reading Plan)

Jude’s letter is short and to the point. He tells of multiple instances from the Old Testament of ungodly people who met their doom because of their sins. Then he calls Christians to persevere in spite of the scoffers and their perversions. He calls on believers to look to Christ, the only one who can preserve us and keep us from falling.
