Hosea
Those following the two-year Bible reading plan with me will begin reading the book of Hosea tomorrow, October 28. (Link to the Two-Year Bible Reading Plan Bookmarks)
God told Hosea to marry a prostitute named Gomer. This marriage was to be an illustration to the people of Israel. Just as Gomer was unfaithful to Hosea, the people of Israel were unfaithful to God. The first three chapters of Hosea are about their relationship, their children, her unfaithfulness, and Gomer’s willingness to take her back.
The remaining chapters recount Israel’s unfaithfulness and lack of repentance, the prophecy of God’s wrath to be shown to them because of their sins, and God’s love and mercy that would ultimately restore them to their land. Hosea also includes passages that tell of the coming Messiah.
