Esther
Those following the two-year Bible reading plan with me will begin reading the book of Esther tomorrow, January 24. (Link to the Two-Year Bible Reading Plan Bookmarks)
Ester is remembered for her courage as she saved the Jews living in the Persian Empire from being slaughtered. She is honored by the Jewish holiday known as Purim.
Key figures in this account are Ester, King Ahasuerus (AKA Xerxes), Mordecai who became Esther’s second father when she became orphaned, and Haman, a wicked official of the king who hated Mordecai and all Jews. The book is short and the story unfolds quickly.
