Who/what do we look to for direction? Zechariah 10:1-5
Who or what do we look to for help? We have options, but there is one that is way superior to the rest, while others are totally wrong…
Zechariah 10:1-5
The Lord Will Restore His People
1 Ask the Lord for rain in the spring,
for he makes the storm clouds.
And he will send showers of rain
so every field becomes a lush pasture.
2 Household gods give worthless advice,
fortune-tellers predict only lies,
and interpreters of dreams pronounce
falsehoods that give no comfort.
So my people are wandering like lost sheep;
they are attacked because they have no shepherd.
3 “My anger burns against your shepherds,
and I will punish these leaders.[a]
For the Lord of Heaven’s Armies has arrived
to look after Judah, his flock.
He will make them strong and glorious,
like a proud warhorse in battle.
4 From Judah will come the cornerstone,
the tent peg,
the bow for battle,
and all the rulers.
5 They will be like mighty warriors in battle,
trampling their enemies in the mud under their feet.
Since the Lord is with them as they fight,
they will overthrow even the enemy’s horsemen.
–Zechariah 10:1-5 (NLT)
I went through a desperate time in my life before I really got to know what the Bible said about much of anything, let alone occult practices when I faithfully read the horoscopes and dabbled in other such activities. And following them I made some mega-mistakes. Now that I’ve recognized the true value of studying God’s Word, I’ve discovered that it was seriously against God’s teachings. My conclusion is that if you go to horoscopes for direction you are asking Satan himself for advice.
God has given us his Word for direction. It is our manual, our guidebook, and our email from God himself. What more do we need? Pastors and Christian friends can help us to understand it better and more quickly, so they can be valuable resources as well, but the bottom line is God’s Word. If you read it for yourself, you will grow in your ability to discern God’s will and direction for your life.
Father God, give us an ever growing hunger to know your Word, and make us willing to apply it to our lives every day.
