1 Chronicles
Those following the two-year Bible reading plan with me will begin reading the book of First Chronicles tomorrow, November 13. (Link to the Two-Year Bible Reading Plan)
First and Second Chronicles were originally written as one book, a refresher history lesson for the people of Israel after they returned from their many years in exile and after the fall of Jerusalem. These books emphasized the positive events of their history and omitted many negative events. They also include new information that was not included in 1&2 Samuel and 1&2 Kings.
First Chronicles begins with genealogies that go all the way back to Adam, and continues with extensive genealogies of the patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and the twelve tribes of Israel. There is a quick overview of Saul’s reign and a longer review of David’s reign and his provisions and plans for the temple that Solomon would build later.
