Paul wrote this letter to Philemon, a Christian man, as well as to other specific individuals and to their house church. But the primary recipient of the letter is Philemon who Paul’s appeals to, hoping he will accept the return of Onesimus, his runaway slave, with kindness and appreciation. Onesimus had become a believer under Paul’s teaching and had become a changed and useful man.
