Ecclesiastes was written by Solomon in his later years. Solomon’s early years as king of Israel were glorious, but eventually his foreign wives led him downhill. Much of the book of Ecclesiastes reflects a heavy heart of discouragement as he reflects on the meaning of life. He ultimately acknowledges that wealth and power are meaningless and that obedience to God and loving him are what gives life meaning.
